Man, it’s been hot. It finally looks to cool down a bit into the upper 80s starting today, but I wouldn’t exactly call that relief. Oasis are playing the Rose Bowl this weekend so check in on your elder Millennial friends who are upset at missing out on tickets.

As always, please let me know if you know of any cool events coming up so I can include them in future emails.

One of my favorite LA gatherings over the past few years is a monthly backyard hillside concert hosted by local band Arc Iris. Get there promptly to snag a good seat. Bring a picnic and beverages. I’ll be there!

🎶 The Folly Bowl: Xs and Arrows
1601 E Loma Alta Dr, Altadena
6pm doors, 7pm music
$20 suggested donation
(music sample)
It’s the penultimate Folly Bowl of the season and if you haven’t been yet, it behooves you to check it out. Bring a picnic and go early to snag good seats in the amazing backyard amphitheater.

🎶 Ever Present: Transa
The Getty Center, Brentwood Heights
3pm garden & reading room performances, 6pm main stage performance
Free plus parking (reservation link)
(music sample)
Curated by David Longstreth of the Dirty Projectors, this Getty Center event will celebrate trans artistry and include performances by an amazing lineup that includes Devendra Banhart and many others. KCRW is promoting this event so timed reservations may run out, but my experience is that they don’t check those.

I worked with Estuardo on a safe streets effort back when he was working for the excellent nonprofit, TRUST South LA. UPCOMING:

  • 😂 On Tuesday mornings through September 23rd, comedian Maria Bamford is performing new stand-up material in support of the Outside In Theatre on York in Highland Park.

  • 📽️ A special 4+ hour director’s cut of Kill Bill, “The Whole Bloody Affair,” is coming back to the Vista from September 12th-18th. I’m fairly certain this is the only way to see the film as it was originally planned and my understanding from friends in the know is that it has alternate shots/dialog from the version that was originally released.

  • 🧘 The Vintage Synthesizer Museum’s Synthesizer Soundbaths return on Sunday, September 14th (early show tix, late show tix). It looks like it is about to sell out, so jump on this now if you want to go.

  • 🎭 From September 19th through September 28th, The Roots and Wings project will present a guided, traveling performance across York Boulevard in Highland Park, called Luminous Streets. It sounds fantastic.
